How to Access Our Courts
- Identify the Correct Court: Determine which court has jurisdiction over your matter based on its type and value.

High Court of Zanzibar
Has unlimited original jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters. It also serves as an appellate court for decisions from the Resident Magistrates' Courts and District Courts.
Kadhi's Court of Appeal
Hears appeals from the Chief Kadhi's Court on matters of Islamic personal law, including marriage, divorce, and inheritance among Muslims.
Resident Magistrates' Courts
Handles a wide range of criminal cases and civil claims where the value does not exceed a specified limit. These are the primary trial courts for most serious offenses.
District Courts
Handles less serious criminal offenses and civil claims of a lower monetary value. They are designed to provide accessible justice at the local level.
Primary Courts
The lowest tier of the judiciary, dealing with minor civil disputes and criminal offenses at the village or ward level. They often focus on mediation and reconciliation.
